When the Ground Feels Dry

Streams in the Wilderness

Day 1

“See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.”

— Isaiah 43:19

There are seasons when everything in me feels barren — when prayer is dry, when strength is gone, and even hope feels like a memory. I’ve walked through days where I wasn’t sure I’d ever feel whole again.

But God has a way of meeting us right there — in the dust, in the wasteland. He doesn’t wait for us to get it together before He begins His work. In the wilderness, He whispers that the story isn’t over. That’s where new life begins — not in abundance, but in need.

When I finally admitted that my ground was dry, something shifted. I stopped trying to hide the cracks. I began to believe that maybe God could do something even with this — the pain, the failure, the emptiness.

And He did. Slowly, almost imperceptibly, hope began to return. Not all at once — just small streams breaking through hard soil. Enough for today. Enough to know He was near.

If your heart feels dry, it doesn’t mean you’re far from God. It might mean you’re right where He’s about to begin.

Prayer for your day.

Lord, when my soul feels barren, remind me that You are near.
Make streams in my wilderness, and help me trust that even in the dry places, You are doing a new thing. Amen.
