Beauty in Becoming

The Slow Work of Grace

Day 4

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
— 2 Corinthians 3:18

There’s a quiet beauty in realizing that God is not in a hurry. I used to think transformation meant arriving somewhere — a finished version of myself that finally measured up. But the longer I walk with Him, the more I see that renewal isn’t about arriving; it’s about becoming.

Recovery, and the healing of those who love someone in recovery, is a gradual unveiling. It’s the Spirit’s slow and steady work of shaping us — through surrender, through honesty, through grace. Some days we feel radiant and strong; other days we feel like we’re starting over. But even in the back-and-forth, God is forming something beautiful.

When I look back, I can see small evidences of His faithfulness — moments where my reactions softened, where compassion grew, where peace replaced control. These aren’t leaps, but quiet steps of transformation.

The beauty of becoming is that it leaves room for grace. We don’t have to rush the process; we just keep showing up to it. God is already making something new in the parts of our story we thought were beyond repair.

Prayer for your day.

Spirit of God, thank You for the patient way You transform me. When I grow restless or discouraged, remind me that beauty takes time. Help me to trust that You are at work in every stage of becoming. Amen.
