Water for the Journey
Streams in the Wilderness
Day 5
“Blessed are those whose strength is in You,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
They go from strength to strength,
till each appears before God in Zion.”
— Psalm 84:5–7
The journey of recovery — and the journey of loving someone through it — is rarely a straight path. There are valleys we wish we could skip and stretches that feel longer than we can bear. But in every wilderness, God provides water for the way.
I’ve learned that His strength doesn’t come as a storehouse — it comes as daily bread, daily grace, daily water. Just enough for the next mile. And somehow, as I keep walking, what once felt like a barren valley begins to bloom behind me.
That’s what the psalmist describes — pilgrims who pass through the Valley of Baka, the place of weeping, and somehow leave behind springs. Their very passing through transforms the ground beneath them.
If you’re walking through a hard season, take heart: you’re not expected to have it all together. The journey itself is shaping you. Every prayer, every act of courage, every moment of surrender leaves behind evidence of grace — little pools of hope for those who will walk this way after you.
God is not just getting you through the wilderness; He’s turning your steps into a source of life for others.
Prayer for your day.
Lord, thank You for giving me enough grace for today.
As I walk through my own valley, help me to leave behind springs of hope.
Make this journey a testimony of Your faithfulness. Amen.
