A Cup of Hope

Streams in the Wilderness

Day 4

“Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.
Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water
welling up to eternal life.’”

— John 4:13–14

There are days when hope doesn’t come easily. When I’m tired, discouraged, or feel like I’ve taken one step forward and two steps back, I catch myself longing for something big — a breakthrough, a flood of strength to wash all the weariness away.

But most of the time, God gives me hope in smaller doses — a cup at a time. A conversation that reminds me I’m not alone. A quiet morning when I sense His peace again. A moment of laughter that feels like grace sneaking back in.

Recovery, and the process of walking with someone through it, often happens this way — sip by sip. God’s refreshment comes not in the flood, but in the cup He places in our hands each day. It’s enough to keep us going.

The Samaritan woman at the well came to draw ordinary water, but she left with something eternal. Jesus didn’t just quench her thirst — He awakened her heart. That same living water still flows, even into the desert places of our stories.

So when hope feels scarce, remember: you don’t have to find the river. Just come for the cup He offers today.

Prayer for your day.

Jesus, thank You for giving living water to thirsty hearts.
Help me to receive what You offer today — one cup of hope at a time. Amen.
