“Music is an outburst of the soul.”
~ Frederick Deluis
"Sir" Thomas Dow, III
Vocals, Guitar

I have been messing around on the guitar since I was 16. I started writing songs when I was 18. For me singing and playing songs with people I love is heaven. If I can bring a smile to someone's face, or help them let go of a tough day, I feel alive. I believe music to be one of the most powerful forces in life. I also believe being a musician comes with the responsibility of using this great energy wisely.

Some of my idols for global change through music are John Lennon and Michael Franti. Some of my idols for just a ripping good time are Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy and BB King.

Flowers From Ashes brings real life to the stage; our music is not separate from the joys and challenges of our lives, it is very real time and very uplifting. Come check us out!

I rediscovered my internal rhythmic voice about 10 years ago, after letting go of it for 30 years while I created several online businesses and taught meditation. I found out a lot about myself when I explored my internal rhythms without judgment and just let it flow. It taught me how to listen to what I have within, and get out of the way to let it flow from that place of authentic bliss inside. What a change this has made in my life and for all those around me.

Flowers from Ashes has been a joy every minute -- from the interactions with our loving bandmates -- to the people I influence through the music -- to the simple joy of letting the music flow from within. This is music from all of our souls and we offer it up as inspiration to anyone with a beating heart. I am proud and happy to work with a writer like Thomas, and we all collaborate with such joy it inspires me daily. We are happiest when we are playing and singing, and people tell me daily that it shows in the music.

If you want soulful harmonies, moving beats, positive messages and music that stirs your heart and makes your body want to shake and groove, this is something you have to check out! If it has the same effect for you as it does for us, it will transform the ashes in your life to flowers...

I have been in the creative arts all my life, whether it be in the visual arts or music.

For the last three years, I've been singing backup and assisted in the development of the Flowers From Ashes band. For me, tapping into the joys of music as a means to express myself is a key component in my life. Being able to express my heart's passion through voice has supported my own growth and allowed me to connect with others in a direct and compassionate way. When I feel the harmonizing rhythm of our voices and music interweaving around us, I am immediately placed in a state of bliss and joy that vibrates through my being.

One of the great joys and practices in life is to continuously nurture and develop creative and loving community. Flowers From Ashes represents a family of talented musicians who strive to enrich not only their own lives through these meaningful connections but the lives of others with their deeply heartfelt, soulful, rocking music that makes your heart sing and body groove. I am grateful for the community that I am a part of everyday in this dynamic band and invite you to see and feel for yourself what so many others have experienced with joy, love and gratitude.

I've been singing and loving music ever since I can remember. I started off in musical theater and continued in that genre through college, taking vocal training on and off for eight years. In college I discovered acapella, and sang with an all female pop acapella group until I graduated. While living in New York City and pursuing an MFA in playwriting, I sang with The Custom Kitchens, a funk/rock party band that did it's best to get too-cool East Villagers to dance.

Flowers From Ashes is a great way to keep the joy of music alive for me every day, and the opportunity to play with such conscious and loving people is a blessing. It's always an honor to play for audiences, and I know we all hope we can get you to dance and smile.

Music has always been a crucial element in my life. It has given me a creative and emotional outlet that I have never found in anything else.

In my early teens, I began playing in bands and writing music. Having never been formally trained in music, I learned the basic skills from my father and from listening to musicians that I idealized. My teachers were Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Madonna, the Beatles, Elvis; anyone and everyone that I listened to. I dreamed and lusted for the opportunity to tour the world. However, my plans for world travel took a detour throughout most of high school and into college.

I studied at Penn State University for six years, immersing myself in a number of different subjects. After leaving school for a year to work in a paper mill, I decided to quit engineering and pursue journalism, which helped to push me towards a more creative mode of thinking. In the spring of 2008, I left college and moved to Colorado; all the while keeping the hope of playing music a possible reality.

I met Thomas in the early part of 2009 and after a brief hiatus from Colorado, I returned and was asked to join his project. I find it amazing how things sometimes have an interesting way of working out.

Bass Guitar

I picked up the saxophone when I was 12, later learned the trombone for marching, and eventually ended up on the bass guitar. I'm a big fan of being the support as opposed to the lead musically, although I'm not above show boating when I think I've got something. When I moved to Colorado to get my PhD in math, I found myself without a musical friend base, and fell out of practice for a few years.

Flowers from Ashes has given me a chance to get back to what I was missing, playing with others who are passionate about music.
